Khalq Afal al-Ibad lil-BukhariAl-Bukhari

ʿAbdān narrated to us; Abū Ḥamza related, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū al-Ḍuḥā, from Masrūq, who said:

“Who used to explain this verse to us? Had it not been for Ibn Masʿūd we would have asked someone else about: ‘…until, when the terror is lifted from their hearts…’ (Q 34:23). He said: ‘The inhabitants of the heavens hear a ringing like the sound of a chain dragged across smooth stone, whereupon they are overcome. Then, when the terror is lifted from their hearts and the sound subsides, they realize that it is revelation and they call out, “What has your Lord said?” They reply, “The truth.” (Q 34:23).’”

ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ narrated to us; my father narrated to us; al-Aʿmash narrated to me; Muslim narrated, from Masrūq, from ʿAbd Allāh, with this same report.
