Abu ʿAbd Allah said, “The Quran is the speech of Allah and is not created, for Allah the Exalted declares: ‘Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rose over the Throne; He covers the night with the day, each pursuing the other swiftly, and He subjected the sun, the moon and the stars to His command’ (al-Furqān 25:2). Here He makes it plain that the created beings, the pursuit, the swiftness and the subjugation all occur by His command. Then He elaborated, saying: ‘Surely, His is the creation and the command. Blessed be Allah, Lord of the worlds’ (al-Aʿrāf 7:54).”
Ibn ʿUyaynah remarked, “Allah has distinguished creation from command by His words: ‘Surely, His is the creation and the command’ (al-Aʿrāf 7:54). Creation takes place by His command, as in His statement: ‘To Allah belongs the command before and after’ (al-Rūm 30:4); His statement: ‘His command, when He wills a thing, is only to say to it “Be,” and it is’ (Yā Sīn 36:82); and His statement: ‘Among His signs is that the heavens and the earth stand firm by His command’ (al-Rūm 30:25). He did not say ‘by His creation.’”
