ʿAbd Allah ibn Yusuf narrated to us; Mālik narrated to us—and ʿAbd Allah ibn Maslamah likewise, from Mālik—from Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ al-Sammān, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
A man from the tribe of Aslam said, “I have not slept at all tonight.” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked, “Why not?” He replied, “A scorpion stung me.” The Messenger of Allah then said, “Had you said, when evening came, ‘Aʿūdhu bi-kalimāti Allāh al-tāmmāt min sharri mā khalaq’ (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created), it would not have harmed you—if Allah, Exalted is He, wills.”
ʿAyyāsh narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Aʿlā narrated; ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar, may Allah have mercy on him, transmitted the same report.
Aṣbagh narrated to us; Ibn Wahb informed me, from Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with this wording.
Saʿīd ibn Talīd al-Ruʿaynī narrated to us; Ibn Wahb narrated to me; Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Jumaḥī transmitted from Suhayl the same report. Aṣbagh also narrated to us; Ibn Wahb informed me, from Saʿīd, with a similar wording.
It was likewise related by Hishām ibn Ḥassān and Muḥammad ibn Rifāʿah, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with this wording.
Al-Zuhrī said: Ṭāriq informed me, from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with this wording.
It was also transmitted by Shibl ibn al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, from his grandfather, from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with this wording; and it is likewise reported from al-Qaʿqāʿ, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in similar terms.
