ʿAmr ibn Zurārah narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to us, from Saʿīd, from Qatādah, regarding the verse, “Those to whom We have given the Scripture recognize him just as they recognize their own sons” (Qur’an 2:146). He said, “They know that Islam is the religion of Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; this is written with them in the Torah and the Gospel.”
Abu ʿAbd Allah added: Ibn ʿUyaynah, commenting on the Almighty’s words, “so that an attentive ear may retain it” (Qur’an 69:12), said, “It is an ear that has grasped the message from Allah.”
