Al-Hakam ibn Muhammad al-Tabari—whose report I recorded in Mecca—narrated to me and said: Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, saying, “I encountered our elders seventy years ago, among them ʿAmr ibn Dinar, and they would say, ‘The Qur’an is the speech of Allah and is not created.’”
