Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated; from ʿAmr ibn Murrah; from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith; from Zuhayr ibn al-Aqmar, who said:
When ʿAlī was killed and al-Ḥasan assumed leadership, he ascended the pulpit. A man stood up and said, “I myself saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seat him in His lap while saying, ‘O Allah, I love him, so love him. Let the one who is present convey this to the one who is absent.’ Were it not for the Prophet’s solemn injunction, I would not have related this to you.”
Later I heard him narrate the same report, and in it he added: “Whoever loves me should love him.”
ʿAbdān informed me; my father informed me; from Shuʿbah with this very narration. Then a man from the tribe of al-Azd rose and proclaimed, “Whoever loves me should love him.”
