ʿAli ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Ṭalḥah ibn ʿAlqamah ibn Waqqāṣ al-Laythī narrated; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAlqamah ibn Waqqāṣ narrated to me, saying: My father informed me, from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she related the following:

“On one occasion some Jews came seeking permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah. They remained seated at the door until the Messenger of Allah had finished what he was doing, and then he granted them leave.

They said, ‘O Abū al-Qāsim, today you did something you had never done before—you kept us waiting at the door.’

The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘My Lord commanded me to do such-and-such, and He revealed to me such-and-such, and He revealed such-and-such.’

They said, ‘By Him who sent down the Torah to Moses, we indeed find that your community is the quickest of all nations to respond to its prophet, yet the quickest of all nations to turn away from its religion.’”
