ʿAbd Allah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us—Muʿāwiya ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to me—from Ibn Jubayr, who said:

Abū Jumʿah al-Anṣārī came to us and related: “We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Muʿādh ibn Jabal was with us, making us ten in all. We asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, is there anyone whose reward will be greater than ours? We have believed in you and followed you.’

He replied, ‘What could possibly prevent you from attaining that while the Messenger of Allah is in your very midst, bringing you revelation from heaven? Rather, there will come a people after you: a Book bound between two covers will reach them, they will believe in it and act upon what it contains—those people will have a reward greater than yours.’”
