Muhammad ibn Sinan narrated to us; he said: Hammam narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Yazid ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Shikhkhir, and al-ʿAlaʾ ibn Ziyad, and ʿUqbah, and another man, from ʿIyad ibn Himar—may Allah be pleased with him—from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “Allah has revealed to me: ‘I have sent down to you a Book that water can never wash away; you recite it whether asleep or awake.’” ʿUthman then instructed Zayd ibn Thabit to make copies of the codices and afterwards burned the remaining copies.

Abu al-Yaman narrated to us; he said: Shuʿayb narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, who said: Anas related to me, from ʿUmar, something similar.
