ʿAbd Allah ibn Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to me; ʿUqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, who said: ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me that ʿAʾishah—may Allah be pleased with her—the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, said:
“I have never been conscious of my parents except as adherents of the religion, and not a single day passed without the Messenger of Allah ﷺ coming to visit us morning and evening. (The narrator then recounted the rest of the report.) Quraysh did not object because Abu Bakr was under the protection (jiwār) of Ibn al-Dughunnah. They said, ‘Tell Abu Bakr to worship his Lord inside his own house, to recite whatever he wishes, but not to offend us with it or make it public.’”
