Ishaq narrated to us; Abu Hisham al-Makhzumi narrated to us; Saʿid ibn Zayd narrated, from ʿAmr ibn Malik, from Abuʾl-Jawzaʾ, from ʿAʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her): regarding the verse, “Do not raise your voice in your prayer” (al-Isrāʾ 17:110). She said, “When the polytheists heard him, they came to him and hurled insults at him.” Thereupon Allah revealed: “Say: Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful” (al-Isrāʾ 17:110), up to His words, “…a way” (Āl ʿImrān 3:97).
