Muhammad narrated to us; ʿAbd-Allah informed us, from Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ. Al-Walid ibn Abī al-Walid, Abu ʿUthman al-Madani, narrated to me that ʿUqbah ibn Muslim narrated to him that Shufayyi al-Asbaḥi related: when I entered Madinah I found Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me:

‘When the Day of Resurrection comes, it will be said to the reciter: “Did I not teach you what I sent down upon My Messenger?” He will answer, “Indeed, my Lord.” He will be asked, “And what did you do with it?” He will reply, “I would stand with it in worship during the watches of the night and the hours of the day.” Allah will say, “You have lied,” and the angels will say, “You have lied.” Then Allah will say, “What you really wanted was that people should say, ‘So-and-so is a reciter,’ and that has already been said.’”
