Abu Jaʿfar also related to me, saying: “Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Khallal narrated to us: I heard Yazid ibn Harun mention Abu Bakr al-Asamm and al-Marisi, whereupon he declared, ‘By Allah, the two of them are zindiqs—unbelievers in the Most Merciful; their blood is lawful.’ ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi said, ‘Whoever claims that Allah did not speak to Moses must be called to repent; if he repents, so be it, but if he refuses he is to be put to death.’”
