Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated, from Ibn Wahb: Abū Hānī related to me, from ʿAmr ibn Mālik, from Faḍālah ibn ʿUbayd, from ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet ﷺ said: “And what is it that flings people down on their faces in Hell other than the very words their tongues have uttered?”
Abū ʿAbd Allāh commented: “The Prophet ﷺ thus made it clear that human voices—their recitations, their review and study of the Quran, their teaching of it, and their tongues—differ from one another: some are finer, more graceful and sweeter; some are stronger, more measured, more melodious, higher, lighter, softer, or more reverent. Concerning this Allah says, ‘All voices will be humbled before the Most Merciful, and you will hear nothing but a whisper’ (Ta-Ha 108). Likewise, some voices are louder, some softer, some more skillful, more sustained, gentler, or lower than others.”}
