Khalq Afal al-Ibad lil-Bukhari - Al-Bukhari - (70)

Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us, from Yūnus, from Ibn Shihāb, who said: ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, ʿAlqamah ibn Waqqāṣ, and ʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbdullāh each conveyed to me a portion of the report of ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) concerning the time when the people of the slander said what they said.

She related: “I lay down on my bed fully aware that I was innocent and that Allah would vindicate me. Yet, by Allah, I never thought that Allah would reveal about me a revelation that would be recited, for in my own estimation my affair was too insignificant for Allah to speak about me with words that would be recited. Then Allah revealed: ‘Indeed, those who came with the slander are a group among you’ (Qurʾān 24:11)—all ten verses in their entirety.”

ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to me; Yūnus narrated to me the same. It was also transmitted by Ṣāliḥ, Ibn Isḥāq, and Fulayḥ from Ibn Shihāb in similar fashion.

Abū ʿAbdullāh commented: “Allah the Exalted says: ‘If mankind and the jinn were to band together to produce the like of this Qurʾān, they could never produce the like of it, even if they were to back one another up’ (al-Isrāʾ 17:88). It is, however, the speech of Allah—uttered by human beings and angels alike.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَعَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ وَقَّاصٍ، وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ حَدِيثِ عَائِشَةَ ﵂، حِينَ قَالَ لَهَا أَهْلُ الْإِفْكِ مَا قَالُوا، وَكُلٌّ حَدَّثَنِي طَائِفَةً مِنَ الْحَدِيثِ، قَالَتْ: " فَاضْطَجَعْتُ عَلَى فِرَاشِي وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ حِينَئِذٍ أَنِّي بَرِيئَةٌ، وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ يُبَرِّئُنِي، وَلَكِنْ وَاللَّهِ مَا كُنْتُ أَظُنُّ أَنَّ اللَّهَ مُنْزِلٌ فِي شَأْنِي وَحْيًا يُتْلَى، وَلَشَأْنِي فِي نَفْسِي كَانَ أَحْقَرَ مِنْ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ فِيَّ بِأَمْرٍ يُتْلَى، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ: ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا بِالْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌ مِنْكُمْ﴾ ، الْعَشْرُ الْآيَاتُ كُلُّهَا " حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ مِثْلَهُ، وَرَوَاهُ صَالِحٌ، وَابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، وَفُلَيْحٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ نَحْوَهُ وَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: " وَقَالَ اللَّهُ ﷿: ﴿لَئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى أَنْ يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هَذَا الْقُرْآنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرًا﴾ [الإسراء: ٨٨] وَلَكِنَّهُ كَلَامُ اللَّهِ تَلَفَّظَ بِهِ الْعِبَادُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ "
