There are likewise texts that abrogate and others that are abrogated, but instances of genuine abrogation in the Quran and the Sunna are few. Whenever the two texts can be reconciled by assigning each to its proper context, that reconciliation is obligatory. No one should appeal to abrogation unless there is an explicit statement from the Lawgiver, or an irreconcilable conflict between two sound texts such that neither can be interpreted in a manner that accommodates the other
