himself without [having killed] a soul,” in place of “and those who make images.” He added: “Then it will coil itself around them and cast them into the depths of Hell.”
Ahmad (3/40) and al-Bazzar narrated it with similar wording. Al-Bazzar said: “It will carry them off five hundred years before all other people,” in place of Ahmad’s addition. In al-Targhib (3/204), it is stated: “Both their chains of transmission contain ‘Atiyyah al-‘Awfi. Al-Tabarani also narrated it through two chains, the narrators of one of which are among the narrators of the Sahih collections. It has also been narrated from Abu Sa‘id as a statement attributed to the Companion himself.”
I say: It has a corroborating report in the hadith of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated by Ibn Lahi‘ah, from Khalid ibn Abi ‘Imran, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from her, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with similar wording, except that he said: “And I have been assigned to those who do not believe in the Day of Reckoning.” He added: “He said: ‘Then it will coil itself around them and cast them into the depths of Hell.’”
Ahmad (6/110) narrated it. Ibn Lahi‘ah is weak.
513 — “O ‘A’ishah, beware of insignificant deeds—in another wording: sins—for Allah will demand an accounting for them.”
It was narrated by al-Darimi (2/303), Ibn Majah (4243), Ibn Hibban (2497), Ahmad (6/70, 151), and Ibn ‘Asakir in The History of Damascus (7/176/1), through the route of Sa‘id ibn Muslim ibn Banak, who said: I heard ‘Amir ibn ‘Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr say: ‘Awf ibn al-Harith ibn al-Tufayl related to me from ‘A’ishah that she said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me—and he mentioned it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of al-Bukhari, except Ibn Banak—spelled with b and with an a-vowel on the n—who is trustworthy, as stated in al-Taqrib.
Al-Mundhiri attributed the hadith (3/212) to al-Nasa’i. Apparently, he meant al-Nasa’i’s Major Sunan; otherwise, I have not found it in his al-Mujtaba, which is the minor collection.
