This very act of denial is what that ignorant, self-styled scholar—who assails the Imams of the early generations and levels every sort of slander against Ahl al-Sunnah—has himself fallen into. In his so-called booklet, “Al-Tandīd liman ʿadd al-tawḥīd” (p. 50), he writes:
“The People of the Sunnah and the Community have explicitly stated that Allah, glorified be He, is not to be described as being outside the universe or inside it.”
He repeats the same claim in another tract, which he has falsely and brazenly entitled “The Creed of Ahl al-Sunnah” (p. 26).
I say: let any Muslim consider this description—does it portray an existing being or sheer non-existence? “Glorified and Exalted is He above what they say, exalted beyond all measure” (1).
May Allah have mercy on Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, who struck the heart of the matter when he described these negators who divest Allah of His attributes and their opponents among the anthropomorphists, saying:
“The anthropomorphist worships an idol, while the negator worships nothingness. The anthropomorphist is half-blind; the negator is totally blind!”
The position of the Salaf and the leading imams is clear: affirm the divine attributes without likening Allah to His creation, and declare His transcendence without nullifying His attributes.
It is related that an intelligent ruler, when he heard this nullifying description from one of the sheikhs who argue with falsehood, exclaimed, “These are a people who have lost their Lord!”
