It was recorded by al-Mukhlis in al-Thānī min al-Sādis min al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqā (190/1) and by al-Dāraqutnī, who said:
“Jābir is weak, and the reports from him are contradictory. Al-Ḥakam ibn ʿAbd Allāh Abū Muṭīʿ transmitted it as a mursal report from Ibrāhīm ibn Ṭahmān, from Jābir, from ʿAṭāʾ, and that version is closer to the truth.”
- A second route goes through Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Yashkurī; Maymūn ibn Mihrān related it from him.
Al-ʿUqaylī cited this in al-Ḍuʿafāʾ (p. 379), as did al-Dāraqutnī, who commented, “Muḥammad ibn Ziyād is abandoned in ḥadīth.” Yūsuf ibn Mihrān also narrated it from Ibn ʿAbbās as a mawqūf report. Al-Dāraqutnī then transmitted it by way of ʿAlī ibn Zayd from him, and ʿAlī ibn Zayd is weak.
- A third route comes through Qāriẓ ibn Shaybah, from Abū Ghaṭafān, from him.
Al-Ṭabarānī included it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (3/98/1): “ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal told us—my father told me—Wakīʿ reported to us, from Ibn Abī Dhīb, from Qāriẓ ibn Shaybah…”
I say: This isnād is sound; all of its transmitters are trustworthy, and I am unaware of any flaw in it.
