For this reason, I included it in al-Ḍaʿīfah (1254).
It has another corroborating report from the hadith of al-Nawwās ibn Samʿān, in his lengthy hadith concerning the Dajjāl and Gog and Magog. At its end, it states:
“While they are thus, Allah will send a pleasant wind that will seize them beneath their armpits and take the soul of every believer and every Muslim. The worst of mankind will remain, copulating with one another like donkeys; and upon them the Hour will come.”
It was recorded by Ahmad (4/181–182), Muslim (8/197–198), and al-Hakim (4/492–494), who said: “Its chain is authentic according to the criteria of both Shaykhs, though neither of them recorded it.” Al-Dhahabi agreed with him. Thus, both of them erred in treating it as an addition to Muslim.
“Copulating with one another” means that men have intercourse with women in public, as donkeys do, without any concern for it. Al-harj—with the rā’ unvocalized—means sexual intercourse. One says, “He haraja his wife,” meaning, he had intercourse with her. Al-Nawawi.
I say: yatasāfadūn (they copulate) has precisely the same meaning.
It has a third corroborating report from the hadith of Abu Dharr, similar to the hadith of Abu Hurayrah.
Al-Hakim (3/343) recorded it through Sayf ibn Miskīn al-Aswārī, who said: Al-Mubārak ibn Fuḍālah narrated to us, from al-Muntaṣir ibn ʿUmārah ibn Abī Dharr al-Ghifārī, from his father, from his grandfather, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to that effect. He said: “Sayf ibn Miskīn was alone in narrating it.”
Al-Dhahabi said: “He is very weak, while al-Muntaṣir and his father are unknown.”
