Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

My father related to me: Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd related to me, from Muʿāwiyah ibn ʿAmr, from Abū Isḥāq, from Ibn ʿUyaynah, from a man, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by his Companions while they were walking. They complained of fatigue, so he instructed them to walk briskly.

I say: This is mursal, because Ibn ʿUyaynah—whose name was al-Ḥakam, Abū Muḥammad al-Kindī, a client of the Kindah tribe—was a Successor who narrated from Abū Juḥayfah and others. All the narrators in its chain are trustworthy and among those whose reports were transmitted by the two Shaykhs, except Ibn Qutaybah’s father, whose name was Muslim ibn Qutaybah. I have not found any biographical notice for him, and he appears to be unknown and unrecognized. Al-Khaṭīb (10/170) and others included a biographical entry for his son, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muslim ibn Qutaybah, yet did not mention this father among his teachers.

Nasalan—with the nūn and the unpointed sīn both bearing a fatḥah—means walking quickly.

466 — “Perform two rakʿahs, and do not do this again.” That is, do not arrive late for the sermon. He said this to Sulayk al-Ghaṭafānī.

Ibn Ḥibbān (569) and al-Dāraquṭnī (169) narrated it through Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm: My father related to us, from Ibn Isḥāq, who said: Abān ibn Ṣāliḥ related to me, from Mujāhid, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who said:

“Sulayk al-Ghaṭafānī entered the mosque on Friday while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was delivering the sermon to the people. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him...” He then mentioned it.

Ibn Ḥibbān said: “He meant arriving late.”

I say: Its chain of transmission is good. In Ibn Ḥibbān’s version, Ibn Isḥāq explicitly stated his direct transmission, unlike
