I say: He is trustworthy, as are those above him; thus, the chain is authentic.
458 — “The angels were created from light, Iblis was created from the fire of scorching heat, and Adam, peace be upon him, was created from that which has been described to you.”
Muslim (8/226), Ibn Mandah in al-Tawḥīd (32/1), al-Sahmī in Tārīkh Jurjān (62), al-Bayhaqī in al-Asmāʾ wa al-Ṣifāt (p. 277, Hind edition), and Ibn ʿAsākir (2/310/1) narrated it through al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, from ʿĀʾishah, attributing it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
I say: This indicates the falsity of the hadith commonly circulated among people: “The first thing Allah created was the light of your Prophet, O Jābir,” and similar reports claiming that he, peace and blessings be upon him, was created from light. For this hadith is clear evidence that the angels alone were created from light, to the exclusion of Adam and his descendants. So take heed, and do not be among the heedless.
As for what ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad narrated in al-Sunnah (p. 151), from ʿIkrimah, who said:
“The angels were created from the light of might, and Iblis was created from the fire of might.”
And from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, who said:
“Allah created the angels from the light of the two arms and the chest.”
I say: All of this is from the Israelite traditions, which it is not permissible to accept, since they were not reported from the truthful and trustworthy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
459 — “The caliphate will last thirty years; thereafter, there will be monarchy.”
It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4646, 4647), al-Tirmidhī (2/35), al-Ṭaḥāwī in Mushkil al-Āthār (4/313), and Ibn Ḥibbān in his Ṣaḥīḥ (1534, 1535—Mawārid),
