And he cited it.
This is a good chain of transmission. Yazīd ibn Ayham was narrated from by a number of reliable transmitters, including the aforementioned Ṣafwān, Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd, and Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh. Ibn Ḥibbān declared him reliable.
In al-Jāmiʿ it says: “It was narrated by al-Dūlābī in al-Kunā, Abū Nuʿaym in al-Maʿrifah, and Ibn ʿAsākir, from ʿAmr ibn Ḥabīb.”
The commentator made no remarks about it, other than adding al-Daylamī to the list of transmitters.
457 — “Indeed, I am soon to be summoned, and I shall answer. After me, officials will take charge of your affairs; they will speak of what they know and act upon what they recognize, and obedience to them is obedience. You will remain in that state for a time. Then, after them, officials will take charge of your affairs who will speak of what they do not know and act upon what they do not recognize. Whoever counsels them, supports them, and strengthens their position—such people have perished and caused others to perish. Keep their company physically, but keep apart from them in your deeds; and testify that the virtuous person is virtuous and that the wrongdoer is a wrongdoer.”
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Awsaṭ (1/196/2), as did al-Bayhaqī in al-Zuhd al-Kabīr (22/1), with the latter’s wording, from Ḥātim ibn Yūsuf, who said: ʿAbd al-Muʾmin ibn Khālid al-Ḥanafī—the judge of Marw—related to us: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buraydah narrating from Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿmur, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood among us delivering a sermon, and among what he said in his sermon was:”
And he cited it.
Al-Ṭabarānī said:
“No one narrated it from Yaḥyā except Ibn Buraydah, and no one narrated it from him except ʿAbd al-Muʾmin; Ḥātim was alone in narrating it.”
