Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

454 — “Has Allah not provided you with means by which to give charity? Every declaration of Allah’s transcendence is charity; every declaration of His greatness is charity; every praise of Him is charity; every declaration of His oneness is charity; commanding what is right is charity; forbidding what is wrong is charity; and in the sexual act of any one of you there is charity.” They said, “Does one of us satisfy his desire and receive a reward for it?” He said, “Do you not see that, if he were to satisfy it in what is forbidden, he would incur sin thereby? Likewise, if he satisfies it in what is lawful, he earns a reward.”

It was recorded by Muslim (3/82), al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad (35), and Aḥmad (5/167), from Abū al-Aswad al-Duʾalī, from Abū Dharr, who said:

“A group of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: ‘O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have gone off with the rewards: they pray as we pray, fast as we fast, and give charity from their surplus wealth.’” He then mentioned the hadith.

It has other chains with wording close to this, both in abbreviated and extended forms. See “Your Smiling at Your Brother,” “Your Lifting of a Bone,” “Upon Every Soul,” and “Each Morning, Upon Every Joint.”

455 — “You bring your disputes to me, but I am only a human being. Perhaps some of you are more persuasive in presenting his case than others, and I judge between you on the basis of what I hear from you. So, whoever I award something from the right of his brother, let him not take it, for I am only assigning him a portion of the Fire, which he will bring with him on the Day of Resurrection.”

It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (3/162), Muslim (5/129), al-Nasāʾī (2/307, 311), al-Tirmidhī (1/250–251), who graded it authentic, Ibn Mājah (2/51),
