36 – “The two ears are part of the head.”
This is an authentic hadith transmitted through numerous chains from several Companions: Abu Umamah, Abu Hurayrah, Ibn ʿAmr, Ibn ʿAbbas, ʿAʾishah, Abu Musa, Anas, Samurah ibn Jundub, and ʿAbd Allah ibn Zayd.
-
The report of Abu Umamah comes by way of three routes.
The first route runs: Sinan ibn Rabiʿah → Shahr ibn Hawshab → Abu Umamah, traced back to the Prophet.
It was recorded by Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, al-Daraqutni, and al-Bayhaqi, as well as by Ahmad (5/285/268) and al-Tahawi, all of them through Hammad ibn Zayd from Sinan with this same wording.
This isnad is fair and acceptable for corroboration, even though both Sinan and Shahr are known to possess some weakness.
