they patiently persevered.” He said: “Al-Zuhrī told me that ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yazīd related to him from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet.”
He said: “It is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.” Al-Dhahabī concurred with him, and it is as they both said.
It also has a supporting report, transmitted by al-Quḍāʿī (67/1) from Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Saʿdī, who said: Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī, Abū ʿAlī al-Aṣamm, informed us; Hishām ibn Saʿd informed us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, attributed to the Prophet.
I say: The narrators in this chain are trustworthy, apart from al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī Abū ʿAlī al-Aṣamm, for whom I have not found a biographical entry. Al-Saʿdī does have a biographical entry in al-Lisān.
449 — “Allah created Adam in His image; his height was sixty cubits. When He created him, He said: ‘Go and greet that group of angels who are seated there, and listen to how they greet you, for it will be your greeting and the greeting of your descendants.’ So he said: ‘Peace be upon you.’ They replied: ‘Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy,’ thus adding: ‘and Allah’s mercy.’ Everyone who enters Paradise will be in Adam’s image. Creation has continued to diminish until now.”
It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (6/281, 11/2–6), Muslim (8/149), Aḥmad (2/315), and Ibn Khuzaymah in al-Tawḥīd (p. 29)
