And this chain is authentic according to the criteria of the Six.
They also narrated it, with other wordings conveying the same meaning, through other chains, which I have traced in al-Irwāʾ (2238).
416 — “He who does not thank people does not thank Allah.”
Ahmad narrated it (5/211, 212) through two chains from Ziyad ibn Kulayb, from al-Ashʿath ibn Qays, attributing it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Al-Mundhiri (2/56) said—and al-Haythami (8/180) followed him: “Its narrators are trustworthy.”
I say: They are among Muslim’s narrators, but the chain is interrupted between Ziyad and al-Ashʿath, for he did not meet him; there were approximately eighty years between their deaths.
However, it has a corroborating report from Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the same wording.
Al-Bukhari narrated it in al-Adab al-Mufrad (33), as did Abu Dawud (2/290), Ibn Hibban (2070), al-Tayalisi (p. 326, no. 2491), and Ahmad (2/295, 302, 388, 492), through various chains from al-Rabiʿ ibn Muslim, from Muhammad ibn Ziyad, who heard Abu Hurayrah relate it.
This chain is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria.
It has also been reported with the wording: “The people most grateful to Allah are those most grateful to people.” It will come under no. 1458.
And with the wording: “Whoever does not thank people ...” It too will come, if Allah Most High wills.
417 — “If one of you loves his brother, let him tell him that he loves him.”
Al-Bukhari narrated it in al-Adab al-Mufrad (79), as did Abu Dawud (2/333), al-Tirmidhi (2/63), Ibn Hibban (2514), al-Hakim (4/171), Ahmad (4/130), and Ibn al-Sunni (193), from Yahya ibn Saʿid, who said: Thawr ibn Yazid narrated to us; Habib ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us from al-Miqdam ibn Maʿdi Karib, attributing it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the same wording.
Al-Tirmidhi said:
