- “I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establish the prayer, and give the zakah. When they do so, they safeguard from me their blood and wealth, except by the right of Islam; and their reckoning is with Allah.”
Al-Bukhari (1/63–64) and Muslim (1/39) narrated it through Shuʿbah, from Waqid ibn Muhammad, who said: “I heard my father narrating from Ibn Umar,” attributing it to the Prophet.
The third is Jabir ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, and its wording is:
“I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: ‘There is no god worthy of worship but Allah.’ When they say: ‘There is no god worthy of worship but Allah,’ they safeguard their blood and wealth, except by its due right; and their reckoning is with Allah.” Then he recited: “You are only a reminder; you are not a controller over them.”

Muslim, al-Tirmidhi (2/237, Bulaq edition), and Ahmad (3/300) narrated it through Sufyan, from Abu al-Zubayr, from him.
Al-Tirmidhi said: “Good and authentic.”
Al-Hakim also narrated it (2/522) and declared it authentic according to their criteria, and al-Dhahabi agreed with him; however, this is questionable.
Ibn Jurayj corroborated him: Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say: “I heard the Messenger of Allah say it,” mentioning it, but omitting his words: “Then he recited,” etc.
