three ʿAbd Allāhs all agreed in practicing it in their prayers, and Ṭāwūs, the eminent jurist among the Successors, followed them.
Imām Aḥmad said in Masāʾil al-Marwazī (19):
“The people of Mecca do this.”
They are sufficient precedent for anyone who wishes to act upon and revive this Sunnah.
There is no contradiction between it and the other Sunnah—namely, sitting on the left foot with the right foot upright. Rather, each is a Sunnah: one may do this at one time and that at another, following the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—and so that none of his guidance may be neglected.
384 — “Whoever wears silk in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter; whoever drinks wine in this world will not drink it in the Hereafter; and whoever drinks from vessels of gold and silver in this world will not drink from them in the Hereafter.” Then he said: “The clothing of the people of Paradise, the drink of the people of Paradise, and the vessels of the people of Paradise.”
Al-Ḥākim (4/141) and Ibn ʿAsākir, in Tārīkh Dimashq (15/202/2), narrated it through Yaḥyā ibn Ḥamzah, who said: Zayd ibn Wāqid narrated to me that Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥusayn told him, saying: Abū Hurayrah narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said it. He then cited it.
He said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī concurred with him.
I say: Its narrators are reliable and are narrators of al-Bukhārī, except for Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥusayn, the Umayyad Damascene, a client of ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān.
Ibn Ḥibbān said in al-Thiqāt (1/37):
“He is counted among the people of Syria. He narrates from Abū Hurayrah, and Zayd ibn Wāqid and Ismāʿīl narrated from him.”
