340 — “Yes, it will surely be repeated before you, until every person entitled to a right receives his due.”
Abu Yaʿla transmitted it in his Musnad (fol. 45/1) through Muhammad ibn ʿUbayd, who said: Muhammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us from Yahya ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Hatib, from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, from al-Zubayr, who said:
“When this verse was revealed: ‘Indeed, you are to die, and they too are to die,’ al-Zubayr said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, will what takes place between us in this world, including particular sins, be repeated before us?’ He said,” and then mentioned the hadith.
I say: This is a sound chain of transmission; all its narrators are trustworthy.
He then transmitted it (fols. 46/1–2) by way of Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah, from Muhammad ibn ʿAmr, with the wording:
“When the verse was revealed, ‘Then indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, you will dispute before your Lord,’ al-Zubayr said: ‘I said: O Messenger of Allah, will our disputes in this world be repeated before us?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ I said: ‘Then the matter is indeed grave.’”
Al-Tirmidhi (2/216) and Ahmad (1/164) also transmitted it through this route. Ahmad added:
“And when the verse was revealed, ‘Then, on that Day, you will certainly be questioned about blessings,’ al-Zubayr said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what blessing will we be questioned about? We have only the two black things—dates and water.’ He said: ‘Indeed, that will come to pass.’”
Al-Tirmidhi also transmitted this elsewhere (2/239) and said after it:
