The number “three” carries no restrictive implication, in view of the hadiths referred to above. Consult them, if you wish, in Sahih al-Targhib (3, Book of Knowledge).
Note: The fourth point is omitted from al-Tabarani’s version, though it is established in Ibn Abi al-Dunya’s version.
Likewise, in The Great Dictionary, the word “for the dead” has been corrupted to “for the living”!! This is an error that ruins the meaning, as is obvious. It may be a typographical error, and thus warranted drawing attention to it. *
From his humility before his Lord—peace and blessings be upon him: his prostration in water and mud
3985—(“I was shown Laylat al-Qadr, then I was made to forget it; and I saw myself, on its morning, prostrating in water and mud.”)
Muslim (3/173) and al-Bayhaqi (4/309) narrated it through Busr ibn Sa‘id, from Abdullah ibn Unays, who said that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: … and he mentioned it. He said:
“We were rained upon on the night of the twenty-third, and the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—led us in prayer. When he left, there were traces of water and mud upon his forehead and nose.” *
3986—(“I was shown Laylat al-Qadr, then one of my family woke me, and I was made to forget it. So seek it in the final ten nights.”)
Muslim (3/171), al-Darimi (2/28), al-Nasa’i in The Major Sunan (2/270/3392), Ibn Hibban (5/272/3670), and al-Bayhaqi (4/308) narrated it through Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurayrah, who said that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: … and he mentioned it.
