“It was reported by al-Tabarani, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy!”
In the other place (10/398), he said:
“It was reported by al-Bazzar, and its narrators are trustworthy!” *
- “When a Muslim brandishes a weapon at his brother, the angels of Allah continue to curse him until he puts it away from him.”
Al-Bazzar reported it in his Musnad (9/103/3641), through Suwayd ibn Ibrahim, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from Abu Bakrah—may Allah be pleased with him—that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: … and he cited it.
I say: The narrators in this chain of transmission are trustworthy, apart from Suwayd ibn Ibrahim—who is Abu Hatim al-Hannat. Al-Haythami said in al-Zawa'id (7/291):
“Al-Bazzar reported it, and it contains Suwayd ibn Ibrahim. Al-Nasa'i deemed him weak, while Abu Zur'ah declared him trustworthy; he is somewhat weak.”
Al-Manawi then commented on this in Fayd al-Qadir, saying:
“Hence the compiler, al-Suyuti, indicated that it is good!”
I say: How can that be, when this Suwayd is, as al-Hafiz said:
“Truthful, but poor in retention; he made errors, and Ibn Hibban spoke of him in excessively harsh terms”?!
Furthermore, the chain contains al-Hasan al-Basri’s ambiguous mode of transmission, as it does that of Qatadah.
However, he has been supported by another report: al-Mubarak said, “I heard al-Hasan say: Abu Bakrah informed me, saying: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—came upon some people passing around an unsheathed sword, and he said:”
