It was reported by Abu Dawud and others, and its sources are given in Ahkam al-Jana'iz (198–202).
Al-Tabarani also reported it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir (p. 100, Indian edition) and in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, no. 3664. He said: Shu'ayb ibn 'Imran al-'Askari told us; 'Abdan ibn Muhammad al-'Askari told us; Yahya ibn Zakariyya ibn Abi Za'idah told us; al-A'mash told us; Sa'd ibn 'Ubaydah told me the same hadith, but with a fuller wording:
“The disbeliever is asked, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He replies, ‘I do not know.’ At that moment he is deaf, blind, and mute. He is then struck with an iron hammer such that, if a mountain were struck with it, it would turn to dust. Everything hears it except humankind and jinn.” He also said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah recite: ‘Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word in the life of this world and in the Hereafter; and Allah leads the wrongdoers astray.’”
He said:
“No one narrated it from al-A'mash except Yahya ibn Zakariyya.”
I say: He and those above him are trustworthy narrators recorded by the two Shaykhs; however, I do not know the two al-'Askari narrators below them. *
- “When the prayer is called and one of you is fasting, let him begin with dinner before the Maghrib prayer, and do not hasten away from your dinner.”
Ibn Hibban reported it in his Sahih (2065), as did al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat (5075). Both reported it through two routes from Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Malik ibn Waqid al-Harrani, who said: Musa ibn A'yan told us; 'Amr ibn al-Harith told us, from Ibn Shihab, that he heard Anas ibn Malik relate from the Messenger of Allah, who said: ... and he mentioned it.
Al-Tabarani said:
“No one said in this hadith, ‘and one of you is fasting, let him begin with dinner before the Maghrib prayer,’ except 'Amr ibn al-Harith; Musa ibn A'yan was alone in narrating it.”
