I say: This chain of transmission is weak, and its text is rejected. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said:
“ʿAbbād ibn Manṣūr al-Nājī was truthful, but was accused of Qadarī beliefs; he practised concealment in transmission and became confused in his later years.”
- As for the hadith of Jābir: it is narrated by Suwayd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, attributed to the Prophet, in the concise wording:
“The prescribed width of a road is seven cubits.”
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ (The Middle Compendium) (9/96/9224) and said:
“No one narrated it from Abū al-Zubayr except Suwayd.”
I say: He is weak, as stated in al-Taqrīb (The Abridgment). Al-Haythamī likewise identified him as its defect, saying in al-Majmaʿ (The Compendium) (4/160):
“It contains Suwayd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. Duḥaym declared him reliable, but the majority of the imams declared him weak.” *
- “When one of you awakens from sleep and performs ablution, let him blow his nose three times, for Satan spends the night upon his nasal passages.”
Recorded by al-Bukhārī (3295—Fatḥ), Muslim (1/146–147), Abū ʿAwānah (1/248), al-Nasāʾī (1/27), Ibn Khuzaymah in his Ṣaḥīḥ (Authentic Collection) (1/77/149), al-Bayhaqī (1/49), and Aḥmad (2/352). *
- “If two Muslim men are walking together, and a tree, a stone, or a clod of earth comes between them, let one greet the other with salām (the greeting of peace), and let them exchange greetings of peace.”
Al-Bayhaqī recorded it in Shuʿab al-Īmān (Branches of Faith) (6/451/8860), through the route of Baqiyyah, who said:
