by which one is guided. Thus stated in Lisan al-Arab, on the authority of Abu Amr ibn al-Ala’.
- “Whoever says, ‘I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad as Messenger,’ Paradise will be his due.”
Abu Dawud (1529) recorded it through Abu al-Husayn Zayd ibn al-Hubab, who said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Shurayh al-Iskandarani narrated to us: Abu Hani al-Khawlani told me that he heard Abu Ali al-Janabi say that he heard Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri relate that the Messenger of Allah said this.
I say: This is a sound chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of Muslim, apart from Abu Ali al-Janabi, whose name was Amr ibn Malik al-Hamdani; and he is trustworthy.
Abu Hani al-Khawlani’s name was Humayd ibn Hani.
The hadith has another route from Abu Sa‘id, narrated by Ibn Lahi‘ah from Khalid ibn Abi Imran, from Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli, from him, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah took me by the hand and said, ‘O Abu Sa‘id, there are three things: whoever says them will enter Paradise.’ I said, ‘What are they, O Messenger of Allah?’ He said, ‘Whoever is pleased with Allah as his Lord, with Islam as his religion, and with Muhammad as Messenger.’ Then he said, ‘O Abu Sa‘id, the fourth possesses a merit as great as the distance between heaven and earth: jihad in the path of Allah.’”
Imam Ahmad recorded it (3/14).
I say: Its chain of transmission is acceptable for corroborative and supporting evidence.
