The third: through al-ʿAlaʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, similar to the hadith cited in the heading. Its ending reads:
“Indeed, men will be driven away from my Basin as a stray camel is driven away. I shall call out to them, ‘Come here!’ But it will be said, ‘They changed after you.’ So I shall say, ‘Away with them, away with them!’”
It was recorded by Muslim (1/150–151), Abu ʿAwanah (1/138), al-Bayhaqi (161), and Ahmad (2/300 and 408).
The fourth: through Muhammad ibn Ziyad, who said: I heard Abu Hurayrah—may Allah be pleased with him—relate that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“By Him in Whose Hand is my soul! I shall surely drive men away from my Basin just as a strange camel is driven away from the watering place.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhari (2367)—this is his wording—Muslim (7/70), al-Bayhaqi (165), al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (15/172/4345), and Ahmad (2/298 and 454). Al-Baghawi said:
“This hadith is agreed upon as authentic.”
The fifth: through ʿUbayd Allah ibn Abi Rafiʿ, from him, attributed to the Prophet, in a very abridged form.
It was recorded by Ibn Abi ʿAsim in al-Sunnah (769).
The sixth: through al-Walid ibn Rabah, from him, attributed to the Prophet, likewise in an abridged form.
It was recorded by Ibn Abi ʿAsim (775).
The hadith has many supporting reports. A considerable number of them were collected by al-Bukhari, Ibn Abi ʿAsim, al-Bayhaqi, and others, in varying wordings—some lengthy and others abridged. *
