Then they took me on, and I saw women whose breasts were being gnawed by snakes. I asked, “What is the matter with these women?” They said, “These are the women who withhold their milk from their children.”
Then they took me on, and I saw boys playing between two rivers. I asked, “Who are these?” They said, “These are the children of the believers.”
Then they took me up to a height, and I saw three men drinking from wine that belonged to them. I asked, “Who are these?” He said, “These are Jaʿfar, Zayd, and Ibn Rawāḥah.”
Then they took me up to another height, and I saw three men. I asked, “Who are these?” He said, “This is Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, and they are awaiting you.”
It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī in al-Sunan al-Kubrā (4/2/246/3286), in abbreviated form; Ibn Khuzaymah in his Ṣaḥīḥ (3/237/1986), from whom Ibn Ḥibbān transmitted it in al-Mawārid (445/1800); al-Ḥākim (1/430 and 2/209), from whom al-Bayhaqī transmitted it (4/266); al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (7667); and al-Aṣbahānī in al-Targhīb (2/608–609), through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir, from Sulaym ibn ʿĀmir Abū Yaḥyā, who said: Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī related to me, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say …,” and he then related it.
The wording is that of Ibn Khuzaymah and others, after correcting some errors found in it. Al-Ḥākim said:
“Authentic according to Muslim’s conditions.”
Al-Dhahabī concurred with him.
Through this chain, al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr cited it in his History, on the authority of Abū Zurʿah, who—as Ibn Kathīr said—was:
“The learned imam and hadith master Abū Zurʿah ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Rāzī—may Allah brighten his face—in his book Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah, a splendid book.”
