“al-Aḥādīth al-Mawḍūʿah” (613), a book from which he derives considerable benefit—yet without acknowledgment! This is evident to anyone who compares my hadith documentations in it with what he cites in al-Mudāwī. He thus concealed the hidden defect in this hadith in order to multiply the supporting evidence and mislead readers, giving them the impression that it was a valid corroborating report.
Even if we were to assume that he had not come across this hidden defect, it would still not have been permissible for him to cite it as a corroborating report while being unaware of the status of one of its narrators, as is well known to scholars.
Among his false claims and his deception of his gullible students is what he says after those false hadiths:
“I say: The hadith master al-Suyūṭī—may Allah have mercy on him—overlooked an authentic corroborating report for this hadith which I found in al-Adab al-Mufrad by al-Bukhārī ...”
He then cited it with its chain of transmission, along with al-Ḥākim’s narration, whose text contradicts it, and the corroborating report that supports al-Ḥākim’s version. He dismissed all of this with a stroke of the pen, saying:
“In my view, this is a narrator’s interpolation. What al-Bukhārī narrated is correct (!), for Dār al-Muqāmah (the Abode of Lasting Residence), in the terminology of the Sacred Law, refers to the Hereafter, not to this world. Furthermore, there is no distinction in this matter peculiar to the desert as opposed to settled areas. Thus, the hadith as narrated by al-Bukhārī (!) points to the question of being buried beside righteous people, and so constitutes an authentic corroborating report for the hadith in the book. And Allah knows best!”!!
I say—and Allah’s help is sought:
After all that has preceded, I do not think that ordinary readers—let alone the more discerning among them—need any further explanation to recognize the invalidity of this statement, by which the man concluded his authentication of a false hadith on the basis of an anomalous hadith. Nevertheless, I consider it beneficial to refute it by exposing the falsehood, sophistry, and attribution to the Wise Lawgiver that it contains. Thus I say:
First: His statement: “For Dār al-Maqām (the Abode of Residence), in the terminology of the Lawgiver, refers to the Hereafter, not to this world”!
