As for the clause, “I was given the keys of the earth,” it is supported by his saying, peace and blessings be upon him:
“I was sent with concise yet comprehensive speech; I was aided by awe; and while I was asleep, I was brought the keys to the treasures of the earth, and they were placed before me.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhārī and Muslim, Ibn Ḥibbān, and others, on the authority of Abū Hurayrah. It is documented in al-Taʿlīqāt al-Ḥisān (8/94/6329). *
3940—(“In my dream, I saw the clan of al-Ḥakam ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ leaping upon my pulpit as monkeys leap.”)
It has been narrated from Abū Hurayrah and Thawbān, as well as in a mursal report from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib.
- As for the hadith of Abū Hurayrah: Muslim ibn Khālid al-Zanjī narrated it from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, from him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. He said:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was not seen laughing wholeheartedly until he died.
Al-Ḥākim recorded it (4/480) and said:
“Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim”!!
That is what he said! Al-Dhahabī made a similar statement:
“According to Muslim’s criteria”!
Both were mistaken, for al-Zanjī was not among the narrators of either al-Bukhārī or Muslim. Furthermore, he is weak because of his poor retention. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb:
“A jurist, truthful, prone to many errors.”
