- Ayyub abbreviated it in his narration, reporting it from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, from Asma’, without mentioning ‘Abbad.
Al-Tirmidhi (1960), Abu Dawud (1699), al-Nasa’i in al-Sunan al-Kubra (9192), ‘Abd al-Razzaq (20056), and Ahmad (6/344 and 354) narrated it in this manner, with the wording: “Spend, and do not tie up your purse, lest it be tied up against you.”
However, Muhammad ibn Sulayman and ‘Abd al-Jabbar ibn Ward corroborated him. Ahmad (6/353) narrated it from Waki‘, from the two of them, with a similar wording.
- It also has a third route:
Al-Bukhari (1433) narrated it from Sadaqah ibn al-Fadl: ‘Abdah informed us, from Hisham, from Fatimah bint al-Mundhir, from Asma’, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me:
“Do not tie up your purse, lest it be tied up against you.”
Then al-Bukhari narrated it immediately afterward, as did al-Nasa’i in al-Sunan al-Kubra (9194), through two routes from ‘Abdah with the wording: “Do not keep count, lest Allah keep count against you.”
Muslim (3/92), Ahmad (6/345, 346, and 354), and, through Ahmad, al-Mizzi in Tahdhib al-Kamal (14/13), al-Tabarani in al-Kabir (24/nos. 337, 338, and 339), and al-Bayhaqi (4/186–187) narrated it through routes from Hisham with the wording:
“Spend—or give freely, or give generously—and do not keep count, lest Allah keep count against you.”
This is Muslim’s wording; the other sources have similar wording.
