- (Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan.)
Al-Bukhari (2017) narrated it through Abu Suhayl, from his father, from ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ... and he cited it.
Abu Suhayl’s name was Nafi‘ ibn Malik ibn Abi ‘Amir al-Asbahi.
His father, Malik, was the grandfather of Imam Malik ibn Anas.
Ahmad (6/73), al-Bayhaqi in al-Sunan al-Kubra (4/308), and al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (1824) and in his Tafsir (8/487) also narrated it through Abu Suhayl with this chain.
‘Urwah also narrated the hadith from ‘A’ishah through a different route, without mentioning the wording “the odd nights.” They narrated it as follows: al-Bukhari (2019–2020), Muslim (3/173), al-Tirmidhi (792), Ibn Abi Shaybah (2/511, 3/75, and 5/75), Ahmad (6/56 and 204), Ishaq ibn Rahuyah in his Musnad (655, 670, and 842), Ibn Abi Dawud in Musnad ‘A’ishah (83), Ibn Nasr in Qiyam al-Layl (p. 105), al-Bayhaqi (4/307), al-Baghawi (1822), al-Tahawi in Mushkil al-Athar (5479) and Sharh Ma‘ani al-Athar (2/91), and Ibn ‘Adi in al-Kamil (4/1517), through various routes from Hisham ibn ‘Urwah, from his father, from her, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan.”
(Note:) Al-Suyuti cited the hadith in al-Durr al-Manthur (6/373) and attributed it to al-Bukhari, Ibn Marduyah, and al-Bayhaqi.
