- Hisham ibn Zayd:
It was recorded by al-Bukhari (3799) and others.
It has been cited in this Silsilah under no. 3430.
Secondly: The hadith of Usayd ibn Hudayr
It was recorded by al-Nasa’i in al-Kubra (8324), and by al-Tabarani in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (552), through the route of Harmi ibn ‘Umarah, from Shu‘bah, from Qatadah, from Anas, from Usayd, with this wording.
Al-Mizzi said in Tuhfat al-Ashraf (1/73):
“Ghundar narrated it from Shu‘bah, but did not mention Usayd.”
I say: This is more likely correct, for Harmi was truthful but made mistakes, whereas Ghundar—Muhammad ibn Ja‘far—was trustworthy and among the most reliable and precise transmitters from Shu‘bah.
The report referred to is the first narration cited under the preceding hadith of Anas.
Al-Haythami said in al-Majma‘ (10/37):
“Its narrators are those of the Sahih collections!”
Yet he—may Allah have mercy on him—did not draw attention to this subtle hidden defect.
Thirdly: The hadith of Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri:
It was recorded by al-Tirmidhi (3904), Ahmad (3/89), and Abu Ya‘la (1358), through the route of Zakariyya ibn Abi Za’idah, from ‘Atiyyah al-‘Awfi, from him, with this wording.
‘Atiyyah is weak, and its text contains a rejected addition. It was because of this that I included it in Da‘if al-Jami‘ al-Saghir wa Ziyadatuhu (2174). See also al-Mishkat (6240).
