and in al-Kubra (9424 and 9430), al-Bayhaqi (3/133), al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (861), Abu Awanah in his Musnad (2/17), and Abu Yala (545), through Yazid ibn Khusayfah, from Busr ibn Said, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: … and he cited it. Al-Nasai said:
“We do not know of anyone who corroborated Yazid ibn Khusayfah in reporting from Busr ibn Said with the wording, ‘from Abu Hurayrah.’ Yaqub ibn Abdullah ibn al-Ashajj differed from him, narrating it from Busr ibn Said, from Zaynab al-Thaqafiyyah.”
I say: It is also recorded by Muslim (2/33), through Bukayr ibn Abdullah ibn al-Ashajj, from Busr, from Zaynab.
The documentation of this narration was given earlier in this Silsilah (1094).
The following may be added to the sources cited there:
Al-Nasai recorded it in al-Kubra (9425)—this being Yaqub’s narration; Ibn Abi Asim in al-Ahad wa al-Mathani (3212 and 3213); and al-Tabarani in al-Mujam al-Kabir (24, nos. 718, 719, 720, and 722)—this being Bukayr’s narration.
In al-Sunan al-Kubra, al-Nasai preferred Bukayr’s narration to Yaqub’s. They were two trustworthy brothers, while Yazid—despite being trustworthy—has objectionable material in some of his reports.
Al-Nasai then narrated the hadith of Zaynab al-Thaqafiyyah by two routes from al-Layth, with his chain of transmission. In one of them, al-Layth—who was Ibn Sad—narrates from Ubaydullah ibn Abi Jafar, from Bukayr, with the same wording. In the other, al-Layth narrates directly from Bukayr, without an intermediary.
