Al-Humaydi also narrated it in his Musnad (1062), through Sufyan with the same chain, adding:
“Allah records for him, for every milking he performs, one good deed—or, he said, ten good deeds—according to whether its milk was scant or abundant.”
Ibn ‘Ajlan’s hadiths are good, as has been stated repeatedly.
Al-Bayhaqi also narrated it in al-Sunan al-Kubra (4/184), through Sufyan, from Abu al-Zinad, with the same chain, adding at its beginning:
“The best charity is the lending of a milk animal ...”
In place of “with a large bowl” in both instances, he has “with a large drinking vessel.” The two have the same meaning.
Al-Humaydi also narrated it (1061) with the very same chain, with the wording:
“The best charity is the lending of a milk animal: it goes out in the morning with a large bowlful, or returns in the evening with a large bowlful.”
Note: Al-Suyuti cited the hadith in al-Ziyadah ‘ala al-Jami‘ al-Saghir with the wording: “... it goes out in the morning with a breakfast and returns in the evening with a supper (1) ...,” attributing it to Muslim!
But it is not found in this form, neither in Muslim nor anywhere else!
Yet it appears this way in Sahih al-Jami‘ al-Saghir wa-Ziyadatuh (no. 2650), so it should be corrected. An ‘uss is a large cup.
