As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah:
Al-Bukhari narrated it (4389) through Thawr ibn Yazid, from Abu al-Ghayth, from him, traced back to the Prophet, with the wording:
“Faith is Yemeni, and tribulation is here; here rises the horn of Satan.”
It has other chains in Sahih Muslim (1/52) and Musnad Ahmad (2/252).
I then found the hadith in al-Maʿrifah wa-al-Tarikh (2/750) by al-Fasawi, and Ibn ʿAsakir (1/128) narrated it through his chain, from al-Hasan ... in mursal form.
Its chain to him is authentic. *
3598—“Indeed, I renounce the friendship of every intimate friend. Were I to take an intimate friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as an intimate friend; but your companion is Allah’s intimate friend.”
It has been reported on the authority of Ibn Masʿud, Ibn ʿAbbas, Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, Abu al-Muʿalla al-Ansari, Jundub al-Bajali, Abu Hurayrah, ʿA’ishah, Anas, Jabir, Abu Waqid, and al-Bara’.
- As for the hadith of Ibn Masʿud, it has several chains:
The first: Abu al-Ahwas—whose name was ʿAwf ibn Malik:
It was narrated by Muslim (7/108 and 109), al-Tirmidhi (3655), Ibn Majah (93), al-Nasa’i in al-Kubra (8104 and 1805), Ibn Hibban (6855 and 6856), ʿAbd al-Razzaq in al-Musannaf (20398), Ibn Abi Shaybah in al-Musannaf (11/473 and 12/5), al-Tahawi in Mushkil al-Athar (1/441–443), and al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (3866 and 3687),
