When the Messenger of Allah was instructed to give his wives the choice, he began with me and said: … and he mentioned the first statement.
She said: He already knew that my parents would not instruct me to leave him. She said: Then he said: … and he mentioned the second statement.
So I said to him: “Concerning what would I consult my parents?! Indeed, I choose Allah, His Messenger, and the Abode of the Hereafter.”
Al-Bukhārī also cited it without its chain (4786), saying: “Al-Layth said: Yūnus narrated to me from Ibn Shihāb …,” and he mentioned it.
