and al-Dārimī (2/27–28), al-Nasāʾī, in al-Kubrā (3394 and 3395), Ibn Abī Shaybah, in al-Muṣannaf (2/514 and 3/73), Ibn Khuzaymah (2198), Ibn Ḥibbān (3679), al-Baghawī, in Sharḥ al-Sunnah (1821), al-Bayhaqī (4/311), Aḥmad (5/313 and 319), and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr, in al-Tamhīd (2/200), through various routes from Ḥumayd, from Anas, who said: ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit informed me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out to inform them about the Night of Decree, when two Muslim men quarrelled. He then said: … and he cited the report.
Al-Ṭayālisī (576) and Aḥmad (5/313) also narrated it through Thābit and Ḥumayd (1), from Anas, from ʿUbādah.
Aḥmad (5/424) narrated it through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, from ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿUbādah.
I say: Perhaps this is one of the errors of this Ibn ʿAqīl, for the hadith is that of Ḥumayd, from Anas, from ʿUbādah.
Mālik (1/298), and through him al-Nasāʾī in al-Kubrā (3396), narrated it from Ḥumayd, from Anas, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said in al-Tamhīd (2/200):
“This is how Mālik narrated this hadith. There is no disagreement concerning its chain of transmission or its text as narrated by him; rather, the hadith is Anas’s narration from ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit …”
Al-Ḥāfiẓ approved this in al-Fatḥ (4/268).
