Muslim (1382) also narrated it from Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd, from Mālik, through the same chain.
Aḥmad (2/237 and 247) also narrated it through Mālik, through the same chain.
It is found in al-Muwaṭṭaʾ (3/84, the recension of Yaḥyā ibn Yaḥyā al-Laythī), with its chain of transmission.
Muslim then narrated it through two routes from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, through the same chain, and said:
“Both said: ‘Just as the bellows expel impurity,’” without mentioning “iron” ...
There is a third route from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, through the same chain: in al-Fasawī’s al-Maʿrifah (1/384), with the wording:
“The worst of people.”
- ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yaʿqūb al-Madanī:
Muslim (1381), al-Fasawī in al-Maʿrifah wa-al-Tārīkh (1/349), Ibn Ḥibbān (3726 and 6737), and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ (2804 and 2805) narrated it at length from Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Darāwardī, from al-ʿAlāʾ, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It includes:
“Indeed, Medina is like the bellows: it expels impurity. The Hour will not come until Medina expels its wicked people, just as the bellows expel the impurity of iron.”
- Abū Ṣāliḥ, the client of the two Saʿd clans:
Aḥmad (2/439) and al-Bayhaqī in al-Shuʿab (3881) narrated it from Ibn Numayr, who said: Hāshim ibn Hāshim narrated to us; Abū Ṣāliḥ narrated to me from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It includes: “By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, it surely expels its people just as the bellows expel the impurity of iron.”
