- Abū al-Walīd al-Ṭayālisī: in al-Bukhārī (4055), with the wording: “It expels sins.” The same wording is found in al-Baghawī’s Exegesis (2/259).
Abū al-Walīd’s narration appears in al-Bayhaqī’s al-Dalāʾil (3/222) and al-Fasawī’s al-Maʿrifah (1/348), joined with Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb, in agreement with Ghundar’s narration.
- Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb: in al-Bukhārī (1884), with the wording: “Indeed, it expels men just as fire expels the impurity of iron.” (1)
This narration of Sulaymān appears in ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd’s Musnad (242—al-Muntakhab), in agreement with Ghundar’s narration.
Note: Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar said in al-Fatḥ (7/356):
“The wording, ‘It expels impurity,’ is the one reliably preserved.”
As for the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, there are several routes from him:
Saʿīd ibn Yasār, from him:
Al-Bukhārī (1871) narrated it: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūsuf related to us: Mālik informed us, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, who said: I heard Abū al-Ḥubāb Saʿīd ibn Yasār say: I heard Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“I have been commanded to go to a town that consumes other towns. They call it Yathrib, but it is Medina; it expels people just as the bellows expel the impurity of iron.”
