I say: Muslim’s version does not contain the words, “and he said.”
The hadith has another route with similar wording. Ibn Abī Ḥātim narrated it—as cited in Ibn Kathīr’s Exegesis (3/107)—through Ibn Abī al-Zinād, from Ṣāliḥ, the freedman of al-Tawʾamah; and it contains the words, “and he said.” Ibn Jarīr also narrated it in his Exegesis (16/29) through the same route, but it does not contain the words, “and he said.”
Al-Suyūṭī included the hadith in al-Ziyādah ʿalā al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr (2403—Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ), without the addition altogether.
And Allah, Most High, knows best. *
3582—“It is a secure sanctuary.”
Muslim (8/118), Ibn Abī Shaybah (12/182 and 14/198–199), al-Ṭaḥāwī in Sharḥ Maʿānī al-Āthār (4/192), al-Bayhaqī in his Sunan (5/195), Aḥmad (3/486), and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr (5610, 5611, and 5612) narrated it through the route of Yusair ibn ʿAmr, from Sahl ibn Ḥunayf, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, gestured with his hand towards Medina and said: … then he mentioned it.
Note: In some sources, the wording of the hadith heading occurs twice, while others give the wording: “It is sacred.” *
3583—“It is Ṭaybah; it expels impurity just as fire expels the dross from silver.”
It has been reported in hadiths from Zayd ibn Thābit, Abū Hurayrah, Jābir, Abū Umāmah, and Abū Qatādah:
